The Second War

                 by Anonymous

Some people might think the war is over

When the white flag is raised

Or when the last man falls

Or when the army is just too sick and tired of it to carry on

Those people are so very, very wrong

The war is only half way through

Because a whole new one begins

The minute a soldier has seen his brothers die beside him

The second he steps on an IED

Or hears a bomb go off

After that, there is a battle he will fight

From that day on, it will not end

It will burry itself in him

It will live in him and around him

And haunt him

Far too often, it breaks him

And so, as I lay down tonight,

I’ll pray for that man,

And I’ll pray that those who don’t see his worst scars

Will open their eyes

To help
